Created as part of The Green Show, an exhibit at University of Michigan’s School of Art & Design.
From the Artist:
This film shows the development of a painting that I did over the course of about two weeks. It is a collage of various activities on a wood panel using paint, pencils and hot wax.
Artist’s notes:
The challenge was to make a green painting. I enjoyed having the problem of working with a color that is known to be difficult, and seeing what would happen.I spent a lot of time looking at the green foliage right outside my studio and in the meadows. The natural world is very important to me and I enjoy living in a place where I can walk out of my house into a meadow or by the river. So I got out various green materials and started working. I also enjoy the way children make art - just starting in one place and continuing without too much forethought. I decided to permanently adhere the pieces as I went along, hoping that the whole would come together in the end. Surface, depth and horizons, close-up and far away - these are the things that I cherish in my studio and on my daily walk on Delhi Overlook. I loved how Tom Bray hooked up the camera above my table so I could take a picture every few minutes and that he would come out to my studio in a flash to adjust the technology. And I loved what Katherine Weider did with the pictures and how she found the great music to go with it. What a treat- to make a painting and get a whole new collaborative art work at the same time!
