Mono No Aware is a Japanese philosophy translating to “the pathos of things”, the awareness of the impermanence of everything. Thus, beauty is subjective, imperfect, and eternally internal. In my attempts to acknowledge the impermanence of myself, and the world around me, I built a kaleidoscope allowing me to perceive the world through my own eyes in addition to multiple skewed views, different angles.
By filming through the kaleidoscope, I was able to capture many different perceptions of the transience of the world that lasted only in that moment, making them somewhat permanent in the documentation process. As people’s presences in my life may always be ever changing and impermanent, they will be forever be everlasting and permanent in my heart, soul, and mind.
