This work explores the idea of space having a memory of the events that take place in it. By recording an event with video, we can unlock these hidden memories.
From the Artist:
This video was created as a response to David Hockney’s “joiner” photographs. Hockney would take pictures of an event as it unfolds in time and then create a visual montage with the photographs. He then argued that a viewer’s interaction with his composition is truer than video/film in terms of recreating the experience of an event. The viewer’s eye is allowed to chose its own path, even if it is slightly manipulated by Hockney’s composition. He argues that video is undemocratic because you are forced into the camera’s point of view. My response attempts to tap into the idea of a space holding a memory more so than recreating the experience or the event. I allow the past to linger longer than it usually does.
