Vol est Impossible is documentation of an installation using a light sequencer and four toy projectors to project images of a wasp in flight. The music is performed by four autocam organs and a simulated bug zapper sequenced by a binary counter.
The music is loosely based on a leitmotif by Rimsky-Korsakov from his opera “Tsar Saltan.” The leitmotif is used when a character transforms into an insect.
The title “Vol est Impossible” is a reference to a claim by a French entomologist that insect flight was impossible according to the laws of aerodynamics.
