Created in After Effects for Heidi Kumao’s Animation for Broadcast class. “Bristlecone” was inspired by a video and animation piece entitled Seaweed, created by Remi Weekes and Luke White. The goal was to break down and understand the process that these artists used in the creation of their piece, and then to test and replicate the process. In addition, it was an experiment to see how a figure can transcend being merely a figure and become something else. Just as a figure came to resemble a mass of seaweed within Weekes and White’s piece, a figure came to resemble a Bristlecone tree within mine. Created within After Effects and Photoshop, Bristlecone’s look was primarily achieved through layering.
