Reed Esslinger-Payet is an MFA candidate at the University of Michigan School of Art and Design. Esslinger-Payet has lived on Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean, teaching English in the local French school system. While there, she began making work that defined itself as both a product and process of the act of collecting. Translating Being collects work by both her daughter and herself into a single artwork that translates their relationship into a physical object.
